Perfect for dessert, Christmas sweets or birthday treats!
Donut Dough
1 satchel of Yeast
1 ½ cups warm water
½ teaspoon sugar
Mix and allow to prove for 20 minutes
Dry ingredients:
In a large dish place the following ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup of oil
½ cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
Once the yeast has proofed, pour it over the dry mixture and knead.
Turn the dough mixture onto a floured surface, work the dough with your hands and place back in the dish.
Cover with a tea towel and place in a warm area to rise. (The dough needs to rise twice)
Once risen, punch the dough down and allow it to rise one more time.
Make small round balls with the dough, then place your finger in the middle of the dough to make a hole. Spin it around your finger to make a nice even shape.
Dust with a little flour and place them back on the bench.
You will see them start to rise again. (Allow to sit for 15-20 minutes)
Cooking the donuts:
You will need the following:
Rice Bran Oil
3 cups or Sugar and 1/2 packet of Cinnamon mixed (You can store the sugar and Cinnamon in an airtight container if not all used)
Paper Towels
A wok or a deep pan or pot
Now you are ready to go!
Heat up some rice bran oil approx. 5 cups.
Once the oil is hot, reduce the heat. By reducing the heat this will prevent it from burning the donuts.
Place donuts in the oil and cook on both sides until golden.
Place the donuts straight into the sugar and cinnamon mixture to allow the sugar to stick.
Once cooked: if you would like, place on the handy towels when cooled, fill with cream, jam and icing!
